About TaKeTiNa
Rhythm as a path to inner balance and creative development
What Is TaKeTiNa?
TaKeTiNa is a unique method that combines rhythmic meditation, musical and human learning processes, and self-exploration. It is based on the understanding that every human being is inherently rhythmic—deeply intertwined with the cycles of nature and the rhythms of their own body. However, this innate rhythmic knowledge often remains untapped and needs to be consciously activated.
This is precisely what the TaKeTiNa process facilitates through profound, holistic experiences that extend far beyond musical learning. TaKeTiNa promotes mental clarity, emotional balance, and physical well-being. It creates a space where rhythm becomes a source of health, inspiration, and awareness—qualities that are essential in everyday life.
What TaKeTiNa Can Do For Your Life
More inner stability & resilience
Rhythmic processes can release inner blockages in a natural way. This opens up space for new ways of thinking and acting and strengthens mental, emotional and physical resilience.

Rhythm as a way of life
How It All Started
55 years ago, Reinhard Flatischler was at a turning point in his life. As a young musician, he felt deeply connected to rhythm, but at the same time he felt a great void – a longing for something original, for a musical expression that went far beyond simply playing notes.
He embarked on a journey that took him around the world in search of the roots of rhythm. In the monasteries of Korea, in the temples of India, at carnivals in Brazil and Cuba – everywhere he went he met people for whom rhythm was a way of getting to know themselves more deeply, connecting with others and thus immersing themselves in a new, as yet unknown reality
These experiences not only shaped his life, but also his work. He began to explore various rhythmic principles and discovered that everyone is rhythmic, regardless of their musical background. What was missing was not talent, but a way to encounter and internalize rhythm directly with the whole body.
This gave rise to TaKeTiNa – a completely new method that enables everyone to immerse themselves deeply in rhythm without learning to read music – playfully and holistically as well as structured and consciously – all with just the body, voice, clapping and steps. TaKeTiNa is a method that invites people to connect with rhythm on a deep, intuitive level.
Today, 55 years later, TaKeTiNa is used worldwide in music, coaching, therapy and personal development and accompanies people to greater presence, inner balance and creative development.
Where Is TaKeTiNa Used?
TaKeTiNa in Music: Rhythm In Its Purest Form, Beyond Bar And Meter
TaKeTiNa opens up a completely new approach to rhythm – not through theoretical knowledge, but through the direct, physical experience of primal rhythmic movements.
Detached from musical traditions such as European, Indian or African music, TaKeTiNa leads you to the essential building blocks of rhythm: pulsation, cycle and subdivision pulsation – the foundation of all music.
- Understand rhythm through physical experience: grasp rhythm not through notes, but through direct physical experience and thus gain access to complex structures.
- From movement to flow: Through repeated movement sequences, outer movements become autonomous over time and flow into inner movements. This creates a deep sense of being carried and flow states in which music actually starts to groove.
- Improvisation — a path to freedom: Experience music directly and intuitively. Find your way to free playing and free movement without fear of making mistakes. TaKeTiNa enables you to shape musical structures spontaneously and creatively.
- Authentic music-making: TaKeTiNa creates a connection between audible sounds and inaudible but tangible rhythmic waves. Being connected to the inaudible aspect of music leads to genuine musical self-confidence and authenticity.
- Visualizing music: Develop the ability to visualize musical structures without notes and internalize them at a deep level.
TaKeTiNa is firmly established in music education. Music colleges and universities worldwide use the method to deepen rhythmic understanding and as an innovative basis for composition and improvisation. Musical projects such as “TaKeTiNa Symphonic” and MegaDrums are based on TaKeTiNa.
Whether you play an instrument, sing, dance or simply want to find a new approach to rhythm – TaKeTiNa gives you a deep, authentic understanding of music.
TaKeTiNa in Therapy: Healing Through Rhythm
Clinical studies confirm the positive effects of TaKeTiNa on heart rate variability, synchronization of body rhythms and the prevention of depression. These findings have led to TaKeTiNa being increasingly used in:
- Pain Medicine: Supporting patients in dealing with chronic pain.
- Burnout Prevention: Promoting resilience and relaxation through rhythmic processes.
- Trauma Therapy: Experience safety and grounding through rhythmic support.
- Coaching and Corporate Health: Increasing efficiency, creativity and social well-being in companies.
The special thing about TaKeTiNa is the opportunity to develop a deep sense of security and inner stability through rhythmic primal movements and physical resonance processes. Access via the body enables direct contact with unconscious patterns and opens up new ways of healing.
„We have been successfully using TaKeTiNa as rhythm therapy in our clinics for 25 years. The experience of being carried by the basic structures of rhythm in the group, losing oneself, finding oneself again and anchoring oneself more securely within oneself are fundamental and enormously enriching components of psychosomatic inpatient treatment.
Our experience confirms that physical or psychological suffering manifests itself in a rigid and unvaried rhythmic expression or in rhythmic chaos. TaKeTiNa helps people to emerge from this rigidity into a lively flexibility.“
—Dr. med. Joachim Galuska, Founder of the Heiligenfeld Clinics
TaKeTiNa In Daily Life: More Serenity, Mindfulness And Presence
With TaKeTiNa you can develop basic human qualities that are essential for life in today’s complex and chaotic world. It helps you to connect with your inner power and face challenges with calm and clarity. Whether in seminars, retreats or as a daily practice online – TaKeTiNa opens up a space in which rhythm becomes the source of inspiration, health and consciousness.
Being in rhythm means arriving in the here and now. What often requires years of practice can be experienced directly through TaKeTiNa. The process allows you to immerse yourself in a state of deep presence in which the past and future dissolve and only the moment counts.
What TaKeTiNa can do in your everyday life:
-
Access to inner stillness & presence: Connection of body and mind is strengthened, which promotes mental, physical and emotional resilience.
- Experience timelessness: By dissolving the “monkey mind”, the mind is calmed and intuition becomes accessible.
- Perceiving simultaneity: The process allows you to perceive several events at the same time - a state of clarity and awareness.
- Remove dysfunctional patterns: Unhealthy behaviors are transformed in a rhythmic process - safer and less anxiety-inducing than direct confrontation.
- Natural flow in life: The experience of vitality and stillness, tension and relaxation, becomes a source of strength and serenity.
Learning In Rhythm — Between Structure And Freedom
The TaKeTiNa Process
With TaKeTiNa, learning becomes a holistic experience that goes far beyond conventional approaches. The method combines findings from brain research and chaos theory with the proven principles of traditional cultures, creating a bridge between modern science and ancient knowledge. The result is a lively, dynamic space in which structure and freedom, individual learning and collective experience are harmoniously intertwined.
By experiencing different rhythmic levels with the whole body, simultaneous perception is strengthened. Mistakes are not seen as obstacles, but as valuable resources that unleash creativity and enable growth.
These are the basic principles:
The Body As An Instrument —
From Inner Perception To Outer Expression
Learning in TaKeTiNa involves the whole body. Rhythmic skills are developed by internalizing rhythmic syllables and physical movements – a network of listening, feeling, moving, inner visualization and cognitive understanding creates a deep orientation.
Understanding the body as a musical instrument is an ancient principle that runs through all cultures. TaKeTiNa, however, goes far beyond this and uses the voice, hand and step movements in a completely new way.
Participants are led into three or more different rhythm levels simultaneously with step movements, clapping and voice.

TaKeTiNa rhythm syllables are sound and rhythm information without meaning. The rhythm mantras were developed by Reinhard Flatischler and consist of syllables such as TaKeTiNa, GaMaLa, TaKi and their various combinations.
Speaking these syllables activates inner movements that lead the whole body into a certain rhythm. This process gives orientation, leads out of the thinking mind, and enables a deep access to primal rhythmic knowledge. In “Call-Response”, the voice becomes an independent rhythmic layer that connects with the other rhythms, supports them or challenges them specifically.

The dancing steps in TaKeTiNa form the foundation of all rhythmic processes. They can be very simple or highly complex — the steady movement, feeling and shifting of weight over a longer period of time creates a stable, rhythmic network that enables deep orientation and grounding.

Clapping, rattling and arm movements are further forms of rhythmic expression. These consciously controlled movements create an additional rhythmic layer which, in combination with the independent rhythms of the steps, creates offbeats, rhythmic figures or even polyrhythms.
Primal Rhythmic Movements —
A Universal Principal
Observations show that all musical traditions in the world are based on the same basic rhythmic patterns. These are the three manifestations of rhythmic vibration: Pulse, subdivision pulse and cycle, as well as the power of synchronization that leads to the archetypes of offbeats, polyrhythms and cycles.
But these patterns are not just musical concepts – they are reflected throughout nature and in the human body. Rhythm is a fundamental principle of life that exists in all natural processes. The heartbeat, the breathing rhythm, the day-night cycle, hormone secretion – all these biological processes follow certain rhythmic patterns that are deeply connected to our life force. We also find these rhythms in nature: in the changing of the seasons, in the pulsation of the tides, in the movement of wind and water.
TaKeTiNa takes us directly to these roots of rhythm and enables us to immerse ourselves deeply in the experience of these primal movements. By consciously experiencing these basic rhythms, an understanding emerges that goes far beyond the intellectual approach. It is a deep, physical knowledge that connects us with the essence of life.
These primal rhythmic movements not only form the basis of all music, but also the foundation for a natural synchronization of body, mind and soul. Those who become aware of these primal movements not only gain a deeper understanding of music, but also clearer access to their own life rhythms.
Simultaneous Perception —
Key To A New Space Of Perception
In the TaKeTiNa process, three rhythmic levels are built up simultaneously with voice, steps and clapping. Each of these levels is simple and easy to perform on its own. But when they are combined with each other, a high level of complexity is created that requires a completely new way of perceiving: simultaneous perception.
In contrast to multitasking, where attention switches quickly between different events, which often leads to stress and excessive demands, simultaneous perception enables a state of deep relaxation.
This creates a large inner space of perception, which paradoxically becomes calmer the more events are perceived simultaneously. This ability is a powerful tool for calmly dealing with the flood of information in today’s world.
TaKeTiNa activates the ability to receive, send and act on several “channels” simultaneously. What seems impossible on a logical level becomes a deep, transformative experience through the practical experience of the TaKeTiNa process.
This form of perception can be transferred to all areas of life and opens up access to an unshakeable inner peace. A state that not only expands musical understanding, but also provides more clarity, creativity and serenity in everyday life.
Dealing Creatively With Mistakes —
The Path To Mastery
In TaKeTiNa, making mistakes is not seen as failure, but as an integral part of the learning process. When participants fall out of rhythm and find their way back into it, there is a natural oscillation between chaos and order. This “falling out of rhythm” and “finding your way back into rhythm” is a living process that enables deep insights.
Making mistakes is an essential step for growth and further development. In TaKeTiNa, participants learn not to avoid mistakes, but to use them as valuable impulses that open up new paths.
THE RESULT?

By reducing the fear of making mistakes, they not only occur less frequently – they also become part of the learning process, which creates stability and security. TaKeTiNa thus becomes a training ground for life itself: Finding peace in chaos and discovering new possibilities in supposed mistakes.
Individual Learning At Your Own Pace —
Beyond Praise and Blame
The TaKeTiNa process allows everyone to learn at their own pace – a learning path based on mindfulness, flexibility and natural growth.
Instead of following a set pace, TaKeTiNa offers the freedom to discover the individual pace of learning. If someone tries to progress faster than is possible, the learning process is automatically slowed down. But if you learn to trust your own pace and consciously take breaks, the learning process can accelerate and deepen in an amazing way.
In TaKeTiNa, learning is not a linear process. Progress often occurs unpredictably when the body intuitively recognizes new connections. Phases of not knowing and losing are just as important as moments of clarity. By consciously allowing these changes – between chaos and order, tension and relaxation – a state is achieved in which learning can take place at the deepest level.
The process unfolds its complexity in a playful way. Each participant takes exactly what can be absorbed and integrated at the moment. This makes it possible for beginners and experienced musicians to learn together – without pressure, excessive demands or rigid guidelines.
Individual learning and collective experience are combined in a natural way – a path that promotes personal development and musical understanding at the deepest level.
